Bikes, Scooters & Water Adventures

Use a public bike for a seaside ride, rent a kayak almost in central Gdańsk, or put an older child on a windsurfing board with an instructor in Sopot.

MEVO — the public bike system foreigners may miss

MEVO covers the wider Gdańsk–Gdynia–Sopot metropolis. Find a bike in the app, scan the QR code and return it to a permitted station.

🚲⚡

Easy for a seaside ride or short transfer

The official system currently has around 4,200 bikes, including standard and electric-assist models.

0.15 PLN/minstandard · pay as you go
0.30 PLN/minelectric · pay as you go
59 PLN / 48 h480 min/day standard or 240 min/day electric
Tourist tip: compare the 48-hour pass with pay-as-you-go if you plan more than one long ride.
👧🚫

Important with children

MEVO is not a family cargo-bike system. Only one person may ride each bike. MEVO's minor-user rules cover ages 14–17 and require guardian consent plus a bicycle card.

With a small child: do not put them in the basket or on the same MEVO bike. If you need a child seat or trailer, use a specialist traditional bike rental.

Minute-rental e-scooters

App-rented electric scooters are common around the Tri-City. Operator brands and prices can change, so use the app shown on the scooter rather than an old travel article.

🛴📱

Useful for adults — with geofenced city restrictions

In summer 2026 Gdańsk again introduced no-ride zones in parts of the historic centre. Operators technically block entry into the designated areas.

🪖

Children: know the Polish rules

Since March 2026, children under 13 may not ride an e-scooter on public roads. Riders under 16 must wear a helmet. Rental operators may set an even higher minimum age.

Our family advice: treat shared scooters mainly as an adult transport option.

🛶 Kayaking on the Motława

This is a proper Gdańsk attraction, not just sport: from water level the Crane, Granary Island and Ołowianka look completely different.

🛶🏘️

Rent directly at Żabi Kruk

The city-run Gdańsk Sports Centre marina rents 1- and 2-person kayaks, plus pedal boats, SUP boards and rowing boats. Safety equipment is included.

30 PLN1 hour
45 PLN2 hours
65 PLN3 hours
Family version: an adult + older child in a double kayak can be a great option. With younger or inexperienced children, ask the marina what they recommend for that day's conditions; a pedal boat may be easier.
🧑‍✈️🛶

Prefer a guide?

Visit Gdańsk promotes guided Motława kayaking. One established central operator sets age 12+ for standard public tours; families with younger experienced children are asked to contact them first.

Worth knowing: the central Motława is a working urban waterway. If you are not confident around boat traffic, choose a guide instead of improvising.

🏄 Windsurfing in Sopot — including children

A genuine Baltic activity for an older child, not only for experienced adults.

🏄‍♀️👧

Children's test lesson from age 6

Akademia Żeglarstwa Prestige offers a 1.5-hour beginner lesson for children aged at least 6 and weighing at least 25 kg. Board, sail, life jacket and wetsuit are included.

Perfect holiday format: one test lesson lets the child try windsurfing without committing to a multi-day course.
🏄‍♂️🧑‍🏫

Private lessons or equipment rental

Private lessons are available for adults and children. Experienced windsurfers can also rent equipment without a lesson.

Location: Bitwy pod Płowcami 61, Sopot — easy to combine with a beach day.

What we would recommend by age

Active attractions are one place where “family-friendly” is too broad.

👶 Under 6

Skip shared scooters and windsurfing. For water, choose beach play, a boat trip or ask Żabi Kruk for the easiest adult-with-child option.

👧 6–9

Windsurfing becomes interesting from 6 years / 25 kg. Kayaking can work with a capable adult in suitable conditions.

🧒 10–13

Kayaking and windsurfing are strong options. Shared scooters remain legally restricted until 13 and operator rules can be stricter.

🧑 14+

MEVO becomes possible for minors with guardian consent and a bicycle card, making active transport much more useful for the family.

Last checked: August 2026. Prices, operators, water conditions and rental rules change. For water sports, follow the instructor or marina's safety decision; for shared mobility, check the current app and road rules.

🚕 Uber & Bolt — very useful with children

For airport transfers, luggage, tired children or destinations away from the SKM line, app taxis are often the easiest door-to-door option.

🚕📱

Uber / Bolt in the Tri-City

Both are widely usable around Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia. Compare the live app price and pickup time; for city-to-city journeys, also compare with SKM because the train avoids road traffic.

Family use: particularly convenient from Gdańsk Airport, after an evening attraction, or when a stroller + bags make transfers annoying.
👶🪑

Do you need a child seat?

Not legally in a licensed taxi in Poland. The taxi exception also applies to normal Uber/Bolt taxi rides — but that does not make travelling without a child seat equally safe.

Child under 150 cm without a restraint: use the rear seat. Standard rides do not guarantee a child seat.

🎾🏓 Tennis in Sopot & padel in Gdańsk/Gdynia

A good option for older children, sporty families or anyone who wants an active break from sightseeing.

🎾

Rent a tennis court in Sopot

Sopocki Klub Tenisowy currently has 14 outdoor clay courts plus 4 indoor courts. Summer outdoor rental starts at 80 PLN/h and rackets can be rented for 20 PLN.

🏓

Try padel

Padbox Gdańsk and Gdynia Padel Club both rent courts and equipment. Padel Gdańsk also runs children's groups from age 6 upward.
