How to buy train tickets in Gdańsk, Sopot & Gdynia

Jakdojade is one of the easiest apps for visitors because you can plan the journey and buy the ticket in the same place. Below is the exact route we used from Gdańsk Główny to Sopot, including the slightly confusing Polish words that still appear even when the app is set to English.

Important: these screenshots were taken from the Android app on 19 August 2026. Jakdojade changes its interface from time to time, and fares can change. The labels and logic below are more useful than memorising the exact position of every button.

Step by step

We start with the language setting, then follow a real Gdańsk Główny → Sopot purchase.

If the app is in Polish, switch it to English

Open your profile/account, scroll down and tap “Zmień język”. That means “Change language”. Choose English, then go back to the journey planner.

Most of the main interface is translated well, but as you will see later, a few railway-ticket screens can still contain Polish labels.

If you see Polish menus, look for “Zmień język” near the bottom of the Account screen.
1

Enter your departure and destination

On the Trip screen, type the stations you want. In our example:

  • Departure: Gdańsk, Dworzec Główny
  • Destination: Sopot

Check the time and tap the green Show routes button.

Parent tip: use the actual station name rather than a vague neighbourhood whenever you already know you want the train.

Do not automatically choose “SKM” — check the actual connection

Jakdojade shows the available routes. For this search it suggested a PR train. PR is the label used here for POLREGIO, so this particular journey is not an SKM train.

That can be a good thing. In our example, the 09:45 POLREGIO service reaches Sopot at 09:57 — about 12 minutes — because it makes fewer stops than the usual all-stations SKM pattern.

For this particular train, the intermediate city stops are Gdańsk Wrzeszcz and Gdańsk Oliwa. It skips stations such as Gdańsk Stocznia, Politechnika, Zaspa, Przymorze-Uniwersytet, Żabianka-AWFiS and Sopot Wyścigi.

Use the route, not the logo: if you are travelling between the main stations, a POLREGIO service may be faster. If you need one of the smaller intermediate stops, SKM may be the better choice.

The planner may show several operators. We chose the 09:45 PR / POLREGIO connection.

Open the connection and tap “Buy ticket”

Tap the train you want. Jakdojade then shows the walking time, platform, track, operator and arrival time.

For our example it shows Gdańsk Główny, Platform II, Track 3, arriving in Sopot at 09:57. At the bottom is the yellow Buy ticket button.

The price shown in our screenshot is 8.00 PLN. Treat this only as the price on the date of the screenshot — tariffs can change.

Add everyone travelling — and scroll for extras

The next screen lets you adjust the ticket. You can add several passengers, so a parent can buy the family’s tickets in one transaction rather than repeating the whole process for every person.

Some of this screen may remain in Polish even with English selected:

Bilet normalny = full-fare ticketTyp biletu = ticket typeJednorazowy = singleOkresowy = period/seasonDodatkowe opcje = Additional options

Scroll further down to Dodatkowe opcje. This is where extra items can appear — for example a bicycle. Bicycle transport/reservation is normally an additional option and may be charged separately depending on the selected operator and fare.

Discounts: only select a reduced fare if that passenger actually has the required entitlement and any document needed to prove it.

“Proponowana” means “Suggested”

This is one of the most useful Polish words to recognise. The top section is labelled ProponowanaSuggested. In our search, Jakdojade proposes the Taryfa Pomorska · one-way single ticket for 8.00 PLN.

Below, Pozostałe means Other options. You may see city, Tri-City, zonal daily or network daily tickets depending on the route.

For a simple one-way Gdańsk → Sopot journey, the suggested option is normally the first one we would inspect because the app is matching the ticket to the selected trip.

If your Jakdojade wallet is empty, top it up at checkout

You do not have to preload the wallet before planning the journey. If the balance is too low, Jakdojade can ask you to refill it during the purchase.

In our screenshot the wallet contains 7.50 PLN while the ticket costs 8.00 PLN, so the app opens a refill screen. You choose an amount, confirm the payment and then finish the ticket purchase.

Payment note: the screenshot was taken on Android and therefore shows Google Pay. Jakdojade’s current official information says wallet top-ups can also use a payment card or BLIK, with Google Pay on Android and Apple Pay on iOS when available. So Apple Pay is not absent from Jakdojade altogether — it is platform-dependent.

Useful for visitors: if your foreign card is supported, adding it or using the phone’s available wallet can be easier than working out a Polish cash ticket machine while the children are waiting.

SKM or POLREGIO: what is the difference for a tourist?

🚆 SKM

The suburban railway is the everyday backbone of the Tri-City and stops at many local stations. It is especially useful when your destination is not one of the three main city-centre stations.

🚄 POLREGIO / PR

Regional trains also run through the Tri-City. Some services stop only at the larger stations, so they can be quicker between places such as Gdańsk Główny and Sopot. The exact stopping pattern varies by train.

Why the ticket list can look surprisingly complicated: the regional Taryfa Pomorska covers both PKP SKM and POLREGIO services in the region, which is why the same app can offer local railway products for both operators. Always buy for the specific connection you selected rather than guessing from the train colour.

Polish labels worth saving

A screenshot of this little glossary may save you a minute at the station.

One rule to remember for SKM: PKP SKM explicitly says that a mobile-ticket purchase must be completed before you enter the train. Do not wait until you are already on board to start the checkout.
