3 Days in Gdańsk with Kids

This itinerary deliberately leaves gaps. Three days with children should not mean six museums, twelve churches and parents checking the time every 20 minutes.

DAY 1 · OLD GDAŃSK

Main Town + something children can touch

Easy first day
Main Town + short Hewelion Lion huntWalk Długa / Długi Targ, Neptune and the riverfront. With younger children, hunting a few lion statues gives the walk a purpose.
Snack / carousel / river breakDo not go directly from sightseeing into a two-hour museum if everyone is already tired.
Early lunchCentral Gdańsk. Our attraction-food guide has one nearby family pick for each stop.
Maritime Culture CentreInteractive, central and a much better first museum with children than forcing them through a traditional adult exhibition.
Motława riverfront + ice creamStop scheduling. Let the first day end while everyone still likes Gdańsk.

DAY 2 · SPACE TO MOVE

Zoo + Oliwa, or a lighter park day

Best weather day
Gdańsk ZooGive the zoo the morning rather than trying to fit it between Old Town sights. For younger children, the Children's Zoo can be one of the strongest parts.
Lunch near OliwaFischgarten is our family-food pick around the zoo/Oliwa area because play space matters after a long walk.
Oliwa ParkFree, pretty and intentionally low-pressure after the zoo. If children are finished, return to the hotel instead.
Optional: beach / playgroundOnly add Reagan Park or Jelitkowo if the family still has energy. This is optional, not a target.

DAY 3 · VIEWS + SCIENCE

Hevelianum + choose your family finish

Flexible
HevelianumScience, fortifications and space to move on Góra Gradowa. A strong school-age choice that does not feel like another Old Town museum.
LunchForum Gdańsk is logistically easy; the goal is a low-friction family meal, not a gastronomic expedition.
Choose ONE: ECS family room / beach / kayakingYoung children: Young Shipyard Workers' Room when available. Nice weather: beach. Older active children in season: kayak on the Motława.
Free final eveningRepeat the place your children liked most rather than adding one more “must-see”.
Want a big day trip instead? On a 4–5 day stay we strongly like Malbork Castle or, in the right season, Hel by boat. With only three days, we would normally keep this first visit in Gdańsk.

Adjust it to your children's ages

👶 Ages 2–4

Cut the plan by about one third. Day 1: short Main Town + one child-friendly indoor stop. Day 2: zoo OR playground/beach. Protect nap or quiet time.

🧒 Ages 5–9

This is the itinerary's sweet spot. Hewelion lions, Maritime Culture Centre, zoo and Hevelianum all give sightseeing a concrete purpose.

🧑 Ages 10+

Add more choice: WWII Museum children's/family context, kayaking, ships in Gdynia or a Malbork day if history is a genuine interest.

🌧 What if one whole day is rainy?

Do not “save” the outdoor itinerary by carrying umbrellas for eight hours. Use Maritime Culture Centre + Hevelianum or another indoor pick, take a long lunch, and move zoo/beach to the driest day.
